President - Jean Friday

Jean is a trained chemist and retired steelworker from Belle Vernon, PA, just of Pittsburgh.  Before becoming President of the Pennsylvania Alliance in 2007, she served on the Board of the Steelworkers Organization of Active Reitrees (SOAR) as well as Executive Vice President of PARA.  Jean is also President of her local SOAR chapter in Clariton, PA.

Executive Vice President - Bill George

Bill became Executive Vice President of PARA in 2010 upon his retirement after 20 years as President of the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO.  A former steelworker from Aliquippa, PA, Bill now resides in Mechanicsburg and still serves as President Emeritus of the State Federation.  PARA is thrilled to have one of the greatest labor leaders in Pennsylvania history as a part of our organization.

Secretary - Wayne Burton

Wayne is a retired Political Science professor from West Chester University.  He worked as a Zone Coordinator for PARA in 2008, and was named Secretary in 2009.  Wayne is also President of APSCURF, the retiree arm of the union of retired professors at Pennsylvania's 14 state-owned Universities.  He is a former Borough Council member in West Chester, and ran for the State Legislature in 2000.

Treasurer - Mike Doyle

Mike served as a Zone Coordinator for PARA in 2006 and 2008, before becoming Treasurer in 2009.  He is an individual CAN member, living in upper Bucks County.  Originally born in England, Mike moved to America nearly 50 years ago to work as a materials engineer before retiring in 2003.

Vice President - Judy Jobes

Judy is our newest Board Member, appointed as at the end of 2010.  She is a retired member of the Electrical Workers living in Erie, PA.  Despite being legally blind, Judy is a tireless advocate for seniors, working people and people with disabilities.  Judy was appointed to the board after serving as a PARA Zone Coordinator in 2008 and 2010.

Vice President - Carol Coultas

Carol is a Communications Worker from Pittsburgh, PA's South Side.  She is President of her Retired Members Club there.  She joined PARA's Board in 2009.  Carol remains heavily involved helping her members and retired members deal with health care or other issues.

Vice President - Bob Dougherty

Bob is a retired state worker living in Waymart, PA, east of Scranton.  He is President of his local AFSCME Retiree Sub-Chapter, and Vice President of statewide AFSCME retirees.  Bob's Sub-Chapter joined PARA in 2009, and he joined PARA as a board member in 2010.

Vice President - Kate Brennan

Kate is a retired music professor from Slippery Rock University, near Butler, PA, and President of her APSCURF chapter at SRU.  She is a long-time PARA Board member who has long been advocating for more invovement between retired faculty and students.  Kate retired to Pittsburgh, where she currently resides.

Vice President - Jerry Pollack

Jerry is a retired teacher from the Philadelphia School District, now living in lower Bucks County.  He is President of the Philadelphia Federation of Teachers retirees, and is extremely active in the PFT political program each fall.

Vice President - Lisa Frank

Lisa is an SEIU organizer who lives in Pittsburgh.  She works tirelessly to improve the lives of health care workers by helping them form unions and collectively bargain for better wages, better benefits and fairness in the workplace.

Vice President - Charlie Kelly

Charlie is a long-time PARA Board Member and union activist in Bethlehem, PA.  He is a retired steelworker, and President of his SOAR chapter there.  He is also active with the Tri-Local pensioneers and other union and community causes in the Lehigh Valley.

Vice President - Ray Myers

Ray is the National President of the Communication Workers of America's retired members.  He lives in Paradise, PA, near Lancaster.  Ray is serving his second stint as PARA Vice President, having just finished serving as Executive Vice President last year.  His passion for issues affecting retired workers is only matched by his passion for Penn State Football.

CAN Vice President - Alice Hoffman

Alice represents her CAN (Community Action Network) group, the Delco Action Seniors, and all CAN members on PARA's board.  She is a retired teacher, and still gives lectures at local colleges on Labor History, which is her area of expertise.  Alice is a lifelong activist thanks to her father, Nelson Cruikshank, who was an important labor leader and aging policy expert who helped to create Social Security Disability Insurance and Medicare.  Alice lives at The Quadrangle in Haverford, oustide Philadelphia.

Ex-officio Board Member - Rick Bloomingdale

Rick is President of the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO.  He was elected to that position in 2010 after serving as Secretary-Treasurer for 16 years.  He is a former AFSCME staff member currently living in the Harrisburg area.  Rick has always been a supporter of PARA, and that support has continued under his administration.

Ex-officio Board Member - Frank Snyder

Frank is a former steelworker from Beaver County who was elected Secretary-Treasurer in 2010.  He previously worked for the National AFL-CIO on their Labor-to-Labor political program and as an organizer for the United Steelworkers. 

ARA Regional Board Member - Carl "Hands" Paulette

"Hands", as he is known to almost everyone, is a retired Teamster who also worked for many years on the Teamsters' national staff.  He serves the national Alliance for Retired Americans as a Regional Board Member serving our area.  Hands lives in Beaver, PA, northwest of Pittsburgh.

Former ARA Regional Board Member - Marie Malagreca

Marie is a retired steelworker living in Pittsburgh.  She served as our Regoinal Board Member before "Hands".  Despite her retirement from the ARA Board, Marie is still active in seniors causes in Pittsburgh, including her annual events at the city's EDOCH buildings to educate their residents.
